Non Bodo groups have sought consultation prior to the inking of the Accord

A senior officer in Assam government said, “Centre is holding parleys with leaders of different Bodo outfits and we are expecting inking of Accord shortly.”

GUWAHATI: With Centre all set to ink an accord with militant outfits in Bodoland, non Bodo groups have sought consultation prior to the inking of the Accord.

The Accord is expected to have economic and social development package.

A senior officer in Assam government said, “Centre is holding parleys with leaders of different Bodo outfits and we are expecting inking of Accord shortly.”

Banned NDFB, an insurgent group active in Assam, has signed an agreement with the government for suspension of operations recently.

According to the pact, the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) under the leadership of its 'president' B Saoraigwra will abjure violence and join in peace talks with the government.

Hira Saraniya Lok Sabha MP from Kokrajhar said, “There is apprehension among the non Bodos population and before the finalization of Accord the government must consult the non Bodo people for lasting peace in the area.”

Sixth schedule arrangement of Bodoland Territorial council (BTC) was done after the political accord with the erstwhile militant outfit Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) following which BLT cadres joined the political mainstream.

NDFB, which signed a tripartite ceasefire agreement with the Union government and Assam government in 2012, was formed under Ranjan Daimary’s leadership as Boro Security Force on October 3, 1986. On November 25, 1994, it renamed itself as NDFB. It entered into a ceasefire with the Union government of India in 2005.

Daimary continued to violate ceasefire ground rules and did not come forward for direct talks.

In 2008, the group suffered a split and a section under Daimary continued to carry out subversive activities. However after the arrest of Daimary in 2009 informal talks have started between the government and the outfit. A special court in Guwahati convicted 14 persons last year, including Daimary, for the 2008 serial blasts in Assam in which 88 people were killed and around 500 others injured.
