Non-bailable warrant against Radio Kashmir Director Bashir Ahmad Malik

SRINAGAR: A local court today issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Director (News) of Radio Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Malik in a defamation case filed against him by a news anchor.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar Rajeev Gupta issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Malik after he did not attend the proceedings of the case in the court.

Ghulam Mohammad Parrey alias Shabnum Vijpari, a news anchor, had filed the defamation case against Malik under Section 500 and 506 of the RPC in 2011.

According to the complaint, Malik had allegedly leveled serious allegations against the news anchor in a letter sent to Prasar Bharti Broadcasting Corporation of India.

The court summoned Malik, who chose to challenge the order in a review petition before the court of Principal District Judge Srinagar and sought quashing of the complaint.

The Sessions court after hearing both sides dismissed the review petition on October 26 and directed Malik to appear before the trial court.

The case has been listed for hearing on November 29.
