Noida: A day after a 45-year-old woman, Neha Singh, committed suicide in mysterious circumstances in Sector 49 of Noida, the police remained clueless about the motive. They said they were scrutinising the mobile call details of the woman. No one from the woman’s family has contacted the police so far.

A suicide note was recovered from her flat. The police said it had been written on the reverse side of a receipt for Rs 1 lakh given to a builder in Delhi. ‘‘We have contacted the builder and have questioned him after the suicide note claimed she had been cheated by some people because of which she was taking the extreme step,’’ said a senior police officer.

‘‘The receipt had been issued by Swantantra Builder in Greater Kailash in South Delhi for Rs 1 lakh paid through a cheque of Oriental Bank of Commerce in 2002,’’ said the officer.

The suicide note has been written in Hindi and the handwriting suggests that she was in a hurry while writing it, the police said. Neha had been living on rent in Sector 49 of Noida and had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison and slitting her wrist. Though she was identified, the police have so far failed to contact her family or relatives.

‘‘The postmortem has been conducted and we will preserve the body for the next 24 hours in case any claimant comes to us. Investigation into the case is on,’’ said SP (City), Noida, Paresh Pandey.

The industrialist, Pravin Sahni, who according to the cops was an acquaintance of Neha, has been questioned. He reportedly told police that he had met Neha a few months ago and she had later approached him for a job.

‘‘We are waiting for the post-mortem report but initial reports suggest that she had consumed poison and then slit her veins,’’ the officer said. The police is also scrutinising a letter from a friend recovered from her house which was written in 1995.

‘‘The letter had been posted from Chennai and we are investigating the links and also looking into several photographs which had been found. The photos were developed at a photo lab in South Delhi,’’ said the officer.

Neha had been staying on rent in Noida for the past three months, the police added.
