'No true Sikh would oppose Dera Sacha Sauda': Sect head
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh claimed that no true and devout Sikh would ever oppose or harbour ill will against the Dera.
"The Dera holds in highest esteem the Sikhism, its Gurus as well as the gurus and preachers of all other religions like Hinduism, Christianity and Islam," he said.
He claimed that thousands of Sikhs throughout the country are "Dera followers themselves", while replying to written questions from the media at a question and answer session in between his religious discourse on the eve of his monthly 'Satsang' (discourse) at sect headquarters here.
In reply to a question, he asserted that the Dera Sacha Sauda was completely "apolitical", adding he had never issued any diktat to dera followers about casting their votes to any political party.
The Akalis have charged the Dera chief with helping the Congress by issuing a diktat to its followers to vote for them in the last Punjab assembly elections.
In reply to another question, he said that the dera would welcome a direct dialogue and would like resolve the controversy across the table with those who are opposing the Dera and the 'Naam Charcha' and invited the media to act as a mediator.
"The Dera preaches and practices compassion ... and renders all possible assistance when the humanity needs succour during natural disasters," he said.
