No talks with Gujjars at Bayana: Rajasthan government

The Rajasthan government on Saturday rejected the demand of Rajasthan Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti to hold talks at Bayana, asking Samiti patron Kirori Singh Bainsla to send his delegation for talks at Jaipur.

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government on Saturday rejected the demand of Rajasthan Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti to hold talks at Bayana, asking Samiti patron Kirori Singh Bainsla to send his delegation for talks at Jaipur.

Agitating Gujjars had sent a letter to the Rajasthan government expressing their readiness to hold talks as uncertainty continued over an early end to the two-week stand-off.

"A three-line letter from Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla, patron of the Gurjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti, has been received by the government representative," a state government official said earlier in Jaipur.

"The letter says that they are ready for talks at Bayana. No mention of who and how many would represent them," he had said.

On Friday, Gujjars demanding ST status had decided to hold talks with the Rajasthan government at Bayana.

The decision to hold talks was taken at a meeting of top Gujjar leaders, including some leading intellectuals.
