No space programme is foolproof: M G K Menon
"No space programme is foolproof. Failures are bound to happen," Advisor to Department of Space M G K Menon told media commenting on the failure of GSLV.
NEW DELHI: As country's space programme suffered a setback following the failure of GSLV, a top scientist on Thursday put up a brave face saying such things should not dishearten researchers as no programme is foolproof.
"No space programme is foolproof. Failures are bound to happen," Advisor to Department of Space M G K Menon told media commenting on the failure of GSLV.
He said space scientists should not be disheartened and look forward to chart future successes.
Menon, also the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT-Delhi, said the flight data of the launch of GSLV was being analysed by ISRO scientists and the exact reasons of the failure would be known only then.
"It is not only the Indian space programme that has seen a failure, even foreign space programmes have been unsuccessful," he said on the sidelines of a lecture at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
The GSLV-F02, carrying the two-tonne INSAT-4C communications satellite veered off its projected path during launch as the pressure in one of the four strap-on motors dropped to zero and failed to give the required thrust to the satellite launch vehicle.
Following this, the vehicle deviated to about 10 degrees, forcing to the mission control giving the 'destruct command'.
