No question of stepping down: Partap Singh Bajwa
Jalandhar: Amid demands for his resignation over Congress' dismal performance in Punjab in this year's Lok Sabha elections, state unit chief Partap Singh Bajwa today said there was no question of him stepping down.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of a function organised by the Hind Samachar Group, Bajwa claimed Congress had not been defeated rather the ruling Akali Dal had won its seats "using muscle power".

"Who is asking for my resignation? I am not aware of it. Regarding the election results, Akali Dal won seats using muscle power," he alleged.

On August 25, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Amarinder Singh had said Bajwa should resign from his post.

In May, 24 Congress MLAs had released a statement to the media, asking Bajwa to own up responsibility for the party's poll debacle in Punjab and resign. Later, Congress's Punjab unit had served show-caused notices on two MLAs for leading the group to openly seek Bajwa's resignation.

Earlier at the function, Bajwa said forcing Governors to resign was a "wrong precedent" being set by the BJP-led NDA government.
