NEW DELHI: There is no proposal to give constitutional status to the Central Vigilance Commission and Central Bureau of Investigation, the Government said today.

"There is no proposal with the Government to provide constitutional status to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The CVC is a statutory body and derives its powers from the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 while the CBI derives its powers from the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, the Minister said.

Both the organisations have adequate functional autonomy, the Minister said.
