No progress in city serial blasts probe
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police said on Thursday that there was no headway in investigations into the July 11 serial blasts.
“There has been no new headway, but investigations are on,” ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi said. The ATS released a computer-generated sketch of the last unclaimed body lying at the Sion hospital, which they suspect to be that of a suicide bomber.
Mr Raghuvanshi appealed to the people to come forward with any details about the deceased, which will help the investigations.
To a question regarding the arrest of foreign militant Abu Amad by the army in Kashmir in connection with the serial bomb blasts case, he said, “We have come to know about it through media reports. Let us see what we can do about it.”
Meanwhile, police obtained some leads regarding subversive plans of two terrorists, one of whom was killed in an encounter on Monday. The other is being interrogated.
The duo had plans to attack five places in Mumbai, Mr Raghuvanshi said. Their targets included Anushakti Nagar, the residential colony outside the BARC, the western railway line, Byculla and Bandra.
and probably Siddhivinayak temple in central Mumbai, Mr Raghuvanshi said. He said Riaz was staying near Dehradun in Uttaranchal before arriving in Mumbai. He said an ATS team has been sent to the place to get more information.
While Osama had come to Mumbai three days ago, Riaz had come here about five to six months back from Dehradun where he was working in a company, the ATS chief said adding that the car used by Riaz had a fake number plate.
