LUCKNOW: Putting speculations to rest, the Samajwadi Party (SP) today clarified that there was no proposal yet for party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to contest from Azamgarh seat.

"There is no such proposal yet for Netaji (Mulayam) to contest from Azamgarh", Cabinet minister and Mulayam's brother, Shivpal Yadav told reporters here.

Reports in a section of media appeared suggesting that Mulayam, who represents Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, may contest from Azamgarh too as the constituency has majority of yadavs and muslims.

The party had given ticket to cabinet minister Balram Yadav from the seat but local SP workers have demanded Mulayam's candidature from the seat.

Earlier, the workers had also held demonstration outside SP headquarters here demanding ticket to Mulayam's son Prateek Yadav after Balram's name was finalised from the seat last year.

About Lok Sabha polls, Shivpal said that the target of SP was to keep corrupt and communal forces at bay from the Centre and form Third Front's government there.
