No objection in relaxing bail conditions: Kerala

Kerala government on Thursday informed the state High Court that it had no objection in relaxing the bail conditions of two accused in the Marad case.


KOCHI: Kerala government on Thursday informed the state High Court that it had no objection in relaxing the bail conditions of two accused in the Marad case.

Justice R Basant directed Director General of Prosecutions (DGP) to file a statement after consulting the police. Earlier, the court granted bail to the accused laying stringent conditions.

The case will be considered next week. The court had on Jan 23 granted conditional bail to 28 accused in the Marad communal clash, which claimed nine lives in 2003.

The court had directed the accused to furnish a security bond of rs two lakh each with three solvent sureties of the like amounts.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative. The accused have been directed to stay within 3 km of the trial court complex in Kozhikode till disposal of the case. A surety will have to accompany the accused to court and back.

The accused shall not travel to any other place and should not communicate with any person other than their counsel and close relatives. They should be present on all posting dates before the court and file affidavits to that effect.

Only two of the accused had approached the court for relaxation of the bail conditions.
