No need to readmit expelled Alagiri: DMK
CHENNAI: Holding that DMK was not a 'cheap' party, a senior leader today said there was no need to readmit M K Alagiri, who was expelled from the party.

"There is no need to invite him. DMK is not a cheap party," DMK Organisation Secretary R S Bharathy told reporters here when asked if the Madurai-based son of party president M Karunanidhi will be taken back in the party fold in future.

Alagiri was expelled from DMK on March 25 last year for his repeated attacks on the party.

In fact there was no practice of inviting anyone to the party fold except its founder C N Annadurai asking rational leader E V Ramasamy, also known as Periyar, to be the DMK president when he founded it, Bharathy said.

Hitting out at Alagiri's remark that his brother and party Treasurer M K Stalin had no identity, Bharathy said it was the Madurai-based former leader who lacks any such identity.

By giving such 'controversial' statements, Alagiri was trying to get some identity as both the party and country had forgotten him, he said.

Stalin had been accepted as a leader in DMK, Bharathy said, adding, Alagiri was making such statement out of jealousy against his younger brother.
