Monsoon Session of Parliament: No more toolkit, just suitkit!

Just before the beginning of Parliament's monsoon session, the all-weather babbler at the Oval Office claimed downing of five fighter jets during the recent India-Pakistan conflict. And in the evening of the session's first day, Indians were jolted by Jagdeep Dhankhar's abrupt resignation as Vice President.

In both cases the government decided to move on by either ignoring the remark or swiftly starting the process of electing a new Vice President. But the most interesting part was the absence of noise over 'toolkit'.

Any avid observer must be wondering which toolkit caused 'downing of jet' comment and which software speeded up the resignation process. Several theories and queries related to these events, after floating in the troposphere, may soon enter the exosphere, giving much relief to the governing apparatus.


Toolkit gained so much traction in recent times, especially during Parliament sessions, that it had turned into a real political hot potato. But its out-and-out absence in this session is as astounding as the freezing moment captured by Coldplay's 'kiss cam'.

Maybe, a toolkit can be better termed a suitkit - do it as and when it suits you. Who knows that better than lawyers. At one moment legal eagles can be seen arguing in blackbuck cases, and at other they can suit up as constitutional experts.

Whether the timing of the two unrelated incidents was just a coincidence or was there something more to it? The answer will continue to be speculative, at least for some time to come. But it's certain that this time the tools were so tightly fitted in a kit that they failed to slip out, fall and create a clattering screech.
