No incriminating items found in house search in 2024 suo motu FIR against Suvendu Adhikari: Police to Calcutta HC

Kolkata: The Purba Medinipur police on Tuesday told the Calcutta High Court that a search of a house in Kolaghat found no incriminating material in a case involving West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Adhikari, who was the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly at the time, had moved the high court against the suo motu FIR lodged in connection with the search.

The high court had stayed the FIR on May 24, 2024.

The officer-in-charge of Kolaghat police station submitted a report before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, stating that no incriminating material was found during the search and that there appeared to have been a "miscommunication".

The report said a raid and search were conducted at the house during the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections based on information received from sources.

"It is clarified that no incriminating material was found at the said premises," the report stated.

Adhikari's lawyer Mayukh Mukherjee told the court that in view of the police report, he was not pressing the petition further.

Justice Bhattacharyya, noting that the lawyer did not wish to pursue the petition in view of the police report, dismissed it as "not pressed".

Mukherjee said the suo motu case was lodged based on alleged information that country-made bombs and cash were stored at the premises.

The high court had on May 24, 2024, stayed the suo motu FIR lodged by the then officer-in-charge of Kolaghat police station on May 22.
