SSP H N Singh told PTI today that following an FIR lodged by jailor of the prison, police have registered a case against unidentified miscreants.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A day after the chief warden of district jail here was allegedly shot dead, the police is yet to make a headway in nabbing the assailants.

SSP H N Singh told PTI today that following an FIR lodged by jailor of the prison, police have registered a case against unidentified miscreants and a search operation in this connection has been initiated.

As per preliminary investigations, police suspect an old enmity behind the crime as the chief warden had got threats from some miscreants after confrontation over meeting with undertrial prisoners, he added.

Chunnilal (50), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants when he was returning home from jail duty yesterday.

It may be recalled that a head warden Devvart Sharma was shot dead outside the district jail six years ago.
