GUWAHATI: Manipur Chief minister N Biren Singh order to suspend police raid in the Manipur university campus. He assured that there will be no further raid in the campus.

There is fresh attempt to break varsity impasse. Biren said that his government has no authority to release the arrested teachers and students without any condition.


Recently, there was 48 hour bandh called by student bodies demanding unconditional release 15 arrested students and teachers of Manipur university.

In a midnight operation recently in Manipur university campus, around 90 students including six faculty members were detained.

Police fired tear gas shell and rubber bullets at students in the boys’ hostel inside the campus. Trouble started when the Pro Vice-Chancellor Y Yugindro Singh, appointed by vice-chancellor AP Pandey — who is on a leave entered the university complex to take charge.

The MU Students’ Union (MUSU) stated that the varsity community takes W Vishwanath as the VC in charge of the MU as per the memorandum of agreement signed between the varsity community, state and Central government.
