NEW DELHI: The Environment Pollution Control Authority told the Supreme Court on Thursday that it does not favour registration of new diesel-powered taxis in Delhi or renewal of permits which allow them to ply in the city.

Counsel Aparajita Rai told a bench led by CJI TS Thakur that all-India tourist operators were misusing their permits to ply diesel taxis in Delhi, though they were meant for movement between cities.

She also accused taxi aggregates of misusing their permits to ply diesel cars in Delhi.

Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar raised the issue of problems created by the blanket ban on diesel taxis for BPOs in Gurgaon and Noida. This business worth billions may shift to other countries, Kumar said.

"Women employees are facing problems," he said, adding that the ban had affected late-night drops.

However, the court said it would deal with these issues later.
