No entry for women in HDK cabinet
Almost a year after its formation, the H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition ministry is all set for its final expansion on Thursday morning when three legislators from JD(S) and two from BJP will be inducted to reach the full size of 34.
However, both coalition partners are unlikely to give representation to women due to internal political compulsions.
Though last minute changes on account of pulls and counter-pulls cannot be ruled out, it is more or less certain that the JD(S) is likely to induct Alangur Srinivas, G T Deve Gowda and H S Mahadeva Prasad while BJP is understood to have chosen Rajendra Verma and S Shivanna.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan in the morning, which will be followed by an informal cabinet meeting. The joint session of the Karnataka legislature is also scheduled to commence at 11 am with an address by governor T N Chaturvedi.
Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa were sworn in on February 3 last year with the understanding of handing over the chief ministership to the latter after 20 months. If the coalition regime survives, Kumaraswamy has to step down from chief ministership in favour of Yediyurappa on October 3 and the latter will remain in power till the 2009 assembly polls.
