No consent given for Middle Siang hydel project, says Assam
GUWAHATI: The Assam government said it has not given consent for the Middle Siang Hydel Project, which the Union water resources ministry wants to proceed on.

Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti on Friday said a Cabinet note for the project was under preparation. She said her ministry had made provisions for the construction of the Middle Siang project and that the government of Assam had given its consent.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi refuted the statement.

Gogoi said despite the state government's denial, Uma Bharti continued to state that the Centre got the state's clearance for the project.

"Her repeated assertion of receiving the state government's consent for the project is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the people which is an inherent character of the NDA government," the chief minister said.
