NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia has started its preparation to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest at its convocation though PMO is yet to send a confirmation. Despite some protests, support of Jamia Teachers' Association has come as a major boost.

According to senior officials in the Jamia administration, the university is in touch with the HRD ministry and PMO while preparing the final schedule and agenda, indicating that the authorities must have received positive indication on the invite. The date will be fixed according to the Prime Minister's schedule, they added. Varions committees are already being formed to plan the event.

While some teachers and a section of the alumni have voiced their resentment over the invite, VC Talat Ahmad said majority of the university community is happy and has been consulted. Badshah Alam Khan, president of the umbrella body of teachers, said it would welcome Modi as it is in the best interest.
