No-confidence motion: Lok Sabha set to debate on Friday
NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has accepted the Opposition's 'no-confidence' motion against the Narendra Modi government moved by Opposition parties including the Congress and TDP.

The no-trust motion will be discussed and voted in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The Speaker named all opposition members who had moved similar no-confidence motions and said TDP's Kesineni Srinivas would move his motion as his name had come up in the lottery.

The member of the TDP, which had quit the ruling NDA coalition in March protesting against the government not giving a special package to Andhra Pradesh, moved the motion during Zero Hour which was admitted by the Speaker.

This came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted at the start of the Monsoon Session today that his government was ready for debate on any issue raised by political parties.

Modi told reporters that discussion on several issues is necessary in national interest and urged political parties to make maximum use of the time available in the session, which will continue till August 10.

He said he had always hoped for a productive session and striven for this and his government would continue to do so.

"Any party wants to raise any issue, this government is ready for a discussion," he told reporters just before the beginning of the session.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government was ready to face the no-confidence motion and win it as it enjoyed a two-third majority in the House.

The TDP members had moved a no-confidence motion during the Budget session of Parliament also.

But it was rejected by the Speaker on the ground that the House was not in order as there were continuous protests in the Well by different political parties on various issues.
