No chill in ties with Russia: India

India on Sunday sought to allay the impression that a chill had creeped into the bilateral relations, contending that the unique ties were growing in diverse fields.

ON BOARD PM'S SPECIAL AIRCRAFT: As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh commenced his two-day visit to Moscow, India on Sunday sought to allay the impression that a chill had creeped into the bilateral relations, contending that the unique ties were growing in diverse fields.

Top government officials, accompanying Singh on his visit for annual summit, insisted that the Indo-Russian relations were "seamless".

"It is not chilly but very hot... It is far from reality," Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon told journalists on board the special aircraft when asked to comment on the diplomatic chill in the bilateral relations felt recently.

"The kind of relationship we have with Russia in many diverse fields, we do not have with any other country," he added.

The bilateral relations recently have witnessed some uneasy developments, including a row over classification of the Prime Minister's visit to Moscow.

The Russian side had insisted that Singh should meet his "counterpart" Prime Minister Victor Zubkhov, failing which the visit will be treated as 'working' and not 'official', that involves certain protocol.
