Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to probe the lynching of 10 suspected thieves in Vaishali district.

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to probe the lynching of 10 suspected thieves in Vaishali district.

Kumar, who reviewed the situation in the aftermath of the bludgeoning to death of 10 persons in savage retribution for alleged frequent thefts at Dhelpurwa village with senior officials of the Home and police department late last night, has asked the CID to probe the case, sources in CM's office said on Friday.

The Chief Minister has directed Additional Director General of CID Yashwant Malhotra to camp at the site along with forensic experts from today. He will submit a report to the Chief Minister in four days, the sources said.

IG (Headquarters) Anil Sinha will conduct a simultaneous inquiry into administrative lapses leading to the brutal killings, they said, adding the government has decided to bring to justice the perpetrators of the crime.

An FIR was registered against 300 odd unknown persons in connection with the incident yesterday.

Chief Secretary A K Chaudhary, Director General of Police A R Sinha, Home secretary Afzal Amanullah and IG Headquarters Anil Sinha attended the meeting past midnight.
