At the party officer-bearers meeting on Thursday, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, JDU national president Lalan Singh and other senior leaders discussed the issues for the political resolution of the party to be brought before the national executive on Friday.
The Bihar government has recently concluded a caste survey and has implemented hike in reservation quota for OBCs, SC and ST communities. As per sources, this is going to be part of the political resolution. The party would also pass a resolution reiterating its demand for conducting a caste census across the country. The issue of special status for Bihar would also find place in the political resolution.
The Friday meeting would also discuss the alliance and seat-sharing among the INDIA bloc partners in Bihar and a committee may be formed to initiate talks on the same.
Speculation is rife about JDU national president Lalan Singh stepping down from his post for Nitish Kumar to take over as president. However, JD U leaders refute any such speculation.
"This is baseless. Why would Lalan Singh resign? Nitish Kumar, Lalan Singh and I have been together for more than 40 years now," JDU leader KC Tyagi told ET.
JDU sources tell ET that both Nitish and Lalan share a special bond and if a decision of this sort is taken it is only between the two leaders to decide and apprise the party about it. A senior party leader told ET that if Nitish asks Lalan Singh to step down, he would abide by the decision without any hesitation.
