New Delhi: Addressing his first virtual rally in the run-up to assembly polls, Bihar chief minister and Janata Dal (U) national president Nitish Kumar on Monday presented a report card on the nearly 15 years of his rule in the state. He said his governments had given jobs to more than 600,000 people, compared with only 95,734 jobs offered during the 15-year rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi. The CM was indirectly hitting back at opposition leader and Prasad’s son Tejashwi Yadav, who has been accusing the government of not providing jobs to the youth. Kumar spoke of the importance of making the new generation aware of the situation in the state during the Lalu-Rabri regime (1990-2005).

The virtual rally was termed a ‘Nischay Samvad’ by his party, in an apparent bid to remind voters about the works done by the current regime under the “Seven resolves of Nitish”, popularly known as “Nitish Ke Saat Nischay”. In his more than two-hour-long speech, Kumar spared a good time to tell the people about his attempts to ensure better management of Covid-19 in the state. The CM claimed the state government had made sufficient arrangement to deal with the pandemic. He said Bihar’s current testing rate was more than 150,000 per day and the government was further enhancing the capacity. He said the government had set up community kitchens in the flood-hit areas to help the affected people.

Kumar said he had a zero-tolerance policy against three Cs - Crime, Corruption and Communalism - right from the very beginning. On the “Nitish’s seven resolves” programme, he said his government had always given special priority for road construction. There is also a policy for the maintenance of the roads, he added. He said the government’s decision to implement total prohibition in Bihar was based on the demands of youth and women. There is a need to make the young generation aware about the teachings of Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), he added.

Referring to his government’s decision to recommend a CBI probe into film actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, he said he hoped the central agency would ensure justice in this case. He appealed to his party workers to make the new generation aware about the non-availability of power during the Lalu-Rabri regime. Now every house has got electricity connections. Now there is no need for the lantern,” he said. Incidentally, Lantern is the election symbol of the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal.
