Nitish Kumar govt passes Bihar Lokayukta Bill

The Bihar assembly on Wednesday passed the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011, setting in process the formal enactment of the anti-graft law.

PATNA: The state assembly on Wednesday passed the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011, setting in process the formal enactment of the anti-graft law, which will cover a wide spectrum of people, ranging from chief minister to village head, and from the level of chief secretary to panchayat clerks.

The bill was passed by voice vote, rejecting the amendments moved by the opposition, who even stood on its ground seeking deferment. "We don't understand the undue haste the government is exercising in pushing through the bill.

The government could have waited for the budget session allowing more time for seeking a large pool of public opinion on the bill. But the government seems to be rushing through the bill, it is quite baffling," said the leader of the opposition Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
