New Delhi: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will resign from his membership of the legislative council by March 30 as a person cannot remain elected to two houses 14 days after the declaration of results. "This is a constitutional requirement and Nitish Kumar will follow it," JDU working president Sanjay Jha told ET. However, Jha didn't comment on the timeline of Kumar's resignation as a CM and formation of the new government under a BJP CM.

In 2005, President's rule was imposed in the state, then Nitish had started his first yatra called 'Nyay Yatra'. From Nyaya Yatra, Bihar has come a long way as Nitish just completed 'Samriddhi Yatra', an indication of a developed Bihar,' Jha added. "Bihar has achieved many milestones in the last 20 years under his leadership and his yatras played an important role in identifying the issues of the people and accordingly formulating policies."

Nitish Kumar in his tenure as CM has undertaken 16 yatras.


His landmark policies of providing women reservation in local body elections, liquor ban and self help group scheme Jeevika Didi, all are said to be ideated from the public feedback received during such yatras. He completed his Samriddhi Yatra on Thursday announcing several projects.

Sources told ET that Nitish is likely to resign as CM in the first fortnight of April paving the way of formation of a new government in Bihar without him.
