Nitish demands all party meet to discuss SEZ
Rejecting the idea of constructing special economic zones (SEZs) in its present form, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday demanded that Centre should call all party meeting to discuss the issue.
"Constructing SEZs in its present form is not good for the country and Centre should call a meeting to discuss the issue in a threadbare manner," Nitish, who was here to campaign for SAD-BJP candidates, told reporters.
SEZ should not be allowed to be constructed in fertile land as it might affect the production of food grain and ultimately lead to food crisis in the country, as happened recently when India had to import wheat from other countries, he said.
He said Bihar would turn into a developed state by 2015 and efforts in this direction have already been initiated. Within a year, an investment of about Rs 27,000 crore has already been attracted and most of the upcoming projects were re-altered to processing of sugarcane and maize, as required by the state economy, he said.
Even the law and order situation in the state has already improved, he said. Within a year around 6,000 persons were convicted and about 1300 were given life sentence by the courts.
