PATNA : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday appealed to industrial houses, trade and business bodies, NGOs and other institutions to contribute generously towards relief and rescue operations and for reconstruction of areas devastated by floods.

"With its limited resources, the central and state governments are trying hard to meet the relief requirements of the flood-hit people," Kumar told reporters.

"But assessing the damage caused by the worst-ever deluge in the four districts of Araria, Supaul, Saharsa and Madhepura, support from other corners would come in handy for tackling the gigantic task of providing succour to the affected people in the wake of turbulent Kosi charting out a new course after breaching its embankment," he said.

Kumar appealed to the industrial houses, trade and business bodies, NGOs and financial institutions to "contribute generously in this hour of sorrow."

The chief minister said he had called an important meeting of leaders of all the political parties here to seek their cooperation and support for the flood-hit population.
