Kolkata: BJP’s newly-elected national president Nitin Nabin, on his first visit to Bengal, slammed the Trinamool Congress government on Wednesday over infiltration, corruption, misrule and attempts to derail Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state, saying the Election Commission of India (ECI) is trying to cleanse the voters’ list off the infiltrators.

Nabin accused the Trinamool government of protecting illegal infiltrators and targeting Hindus.

Claiming that there is a deliberate attempt by the Trinamool to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh, Nabin said, “The illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh do not have any right to stay in this land."

Accusing the Trinamool of "jungle raj", Nabin attacked the ruling party over multiple scams and said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, all the perpetrators of corruption will be punished. “You have shown dreams of good governance to people. But, instead, you have opened the factory of corruption. Factories have been shut, and corruption and lawlessness has prevailed. Hindus are being tortured," he alleged.

Nabin claimed that while the ECI was trying to weed out infiltrators and fake voters, Trinamool was protecting them. The BJP chief expressed concern over the demographic changes in Bengal and claimed that Trinamool intended to merge West Bengal with Bangladesh. “The demography of the state has changed, posing a threat to national security," he said.

Addressing the ongoing SIR issue, Nabin accused the Banerjee-led government of misleading the public. “The people of West Bengal have started reverse counting. In the coming days, BJP will take West Bengal towards the path of progress,” Nabin said, while addressing the Bardhaman Division Karyakarta Sammelan at the industrial township of Durgapur in West Burdwan district. “We have ended jungle raj in several states like UP and Bihar after coming to power in those states. We will end that in West Bengal too,” he said.

He further said that the ECI is not harassing the people. "It is the Trinamool government's SDOs and BDOs who are doing it to create an atmosphere of fear and discredit the ECI,” Nabin alleged.

Later, Nabin offered prayers at the Bhirangi Kali Temple in Durgapur, and sought blessings of Maa Kali. Nabin also launched the BJP's “Digital Warrior” campaign, aimed at establishing stronger digital connectivity with the people of West Bengal and Bengalis living across the country and the world.
