The organisational leadership change is expected to trigger a broader generational realignment and lay the groundwork for a review of governance at the Centre and in BJP-ruled states, sources added, though noting that the timelines remain fluid.
New BJP Team in the Works
A reconstitution of the party's national organisational team is expected soon, with a focus on younger leaders, sources said. Most new office-bearers are likely to be under 55, with fresh faces from state units projected to occupy key national roles. The overhaul is being seen as a long-term strategic move ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, aimed at strengthening mobilisation, organisational depth, and political messaging.
The incoming team is expected to prioritise homegrown talent with ideological alignment to BJP and Sangh background though a few leaders from outside may be incorporated. Former state unit chiefs and some ex-Union ministers are reportedly in contention, while only a handful from the current team are likely to be retained, sources added.
Centre's Governance Structure
The current Council of Ministers has largely remained unchanged since 2021, with 34 ministers from Modi 2.0 - including 19 Cabinet-rank ministers - continuing into the present term. As the government enters its middle phase, the leadership is reviewing ministerial performance and workload distribution, sources said.
While no decisions have been taken yet, the formation of a new organisational team is expected to lay the groundwork for potential adjustments at the Cabinet level.
More than a dozen ministers currently hold dual portfolios with several nearing the latter phase of their political careers, while the Rajya Sabha tenure of a few expires this year, sources noted.
States Under Review
Party leaders are also weighing changes in BJP-ruled states, though any action is expected to be measured and situation-specific, sources said. Uttar Pradesh remains central, with discussions on social representation, including a possible Dalit leader in a senior role, ongoing. Cabinet adjustments in Bihar and Rajasthan are under consideration, while efforts to finalise government formation continue in Manipur.
Rajya Sabha Vacancies
The organisational and governance reset coincides with a looming Rajya Sabha churn, with over 70 seats across parties falling vacant in the coming year, sources said. Around 30 BJP MPs are retiring, and the party expects to secure at least 33 seats based on current assembly strength. The selections are likely to balance organisational needs, governance experience, and caste equations, sources added, ahead of the next political cycle.
