NEW DELHI: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has rejected Rahul Gandhi quoting him saying that “the farmers should not depend either on God or Government”. Making a personal explanation in the Lok Sabha, Gadkari said, “I never said farmers shouldn’t depend on either god or government... I want to make it clear that Inever made such a statement."

Gadkari’s statement comes in response to Gandhi saying in Lok Sabha on Monday that some NGO activists had informed him that Gadkari had told farmers that they should not depend on god and government. Gandhi then added he “admired” Gadkari as he was “honest” and spoke from his heart. Refuting the Congress leader’s claim, Gadkari said he had made a speech in Maharashtra saying that farmers continued to suffer but they should not be frustrated. “They should not only depend on god or government but work to improve farm production by using new methods".
