NEW DELHI: BJP chief Nitin Gadkari has filed a defamation case in a Delhi court against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for linking his name to a coal block allocation. Gadkari was present in metropolitan magistrate Sudhesh Kumar's court to file the case.

Singh had alleged last month that BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, an entrepreneur from Nagpur, was Gadkari's business partner. According to the complaint, Singh named him in the allocation of coal blocks to a company belonging to Sancheti.

Singh alleged that Sancheti was given a sweetheart deal for a coal mine in Madhya Pradesh, where BJP is in power, because of his close links to the party chief.

In a legal notice sent to Digvijaya Singh a few weeks ago, the BJP chief said the remarks against him were "completely concocted, defamatory, scandalous and un-parliamentary".
