Nitin Gadkari accuses Congress of 'failure' on all fronts

Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said the party is not concerned about the country but how Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister.

NEW DELHI: Accusing Congress of "failure" on all fronts, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said the party is not concerned about the country but how Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister.

Addressing the first national convention of the recently launched Samata Manch, an anti-Congress forum launched by several associates of the ailing socialist leader George Fernandes, he said corruption, wrong socio-economic policies and dynastic politics are the biggest hindrance to country's development.

"We are in a very unfortunate state to witness suicides of our farmers...Our country imports petrol, diesel, edible oil, gold and coal for billions of rupees even though we are capable of producing these within our country. But it is not possible due to corruption and bad policies," he said.

Gadkari drew a comparison between the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government and present Congress-led UPA rule.

"In the Congress rule, the value of rupee has drastically weakened and inflation has touched new heights. Rising unemployment is causing large migration from UP and Bihar to big cities. This population lives in 'jhuggis' in these cities," he said.

Congress is not in a situation to win by convincing people so it has started confusing people, he said, adding till the time there is Congress there would be corruption.

Gadkari said his party wants to change the present scenario.

He said his party supports George Fernandes' ideology and would provide complete support to the forum.
