“We will come out with a comprehensive policy that will address all issues related to mobility,” Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog, said.
NEW DELHI: The government will frame a comprehensive air-pollution policy for cities which is likely to leverage shared mobility, electric vehicle mobility and zero-emission mobility.

“We will come out with a comprehensive policy that will address all issues related to mobility,” Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog, the country’s premier think tank, told reporters here on Thursday ahead of the Move Summit.

MOVE is a global mobility summit — the first of its kind in the country—being organised by the Niti Aayog and other stakeholder ministries, including the ministry of road transport and highways.

Over 1,200 participants from across the world, including government and industry leaders, research organisations, academia, think tanks and civil society organisations are expected to participate.

“Nowhere in the world is there greater potential to accelerate the transition to a shared, connected and zero-emission society than India because of its lower penetration levels. MOVE will help catalyse the transition by laying down a futuristic roadmap," Kant said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the summit on September 7 which is expected to see top automobile and technology companies, both Indian and international, deliberating on challenges and solutions to mobility in India.

The Aayog has already worked with as many as 20 states to formulate state-specific comprehensive strategies by constituting respective state task forces to decide on the future of mobility in these states.

According to Niti Aayog’s vicechairman, Rajiv Kumar, the idea is to push the policy frontier forward to bring India on the frontline of digitally-shared, zero-emission mobility.

Through this summit, the government aims to encourage synergies between indigenous industries such as automobile manufacturing, IT, electronics and telecommunications and integration with global supply chains.
