Nirupam for CBI probe into Malegaon blasts

MUMBAI: With municipal elections around, everyone seems to be in a hurry to take politically correct position. Sanjay Nirupam, former Shiv Sena MP currently in wilderness in Congress, on Wednesday wrote to Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh asking them to probe a blast in Malegaon that took place over a month and a half ago.
His letter to PM Singh and Ms Gandhi comes a day after the state police chief PS Pasricha claimed to have successfully solved the September 8 Malegaon serial blasts case. According to Mr Pasricha two Pakistani nationals were involved in the explosions carried out allegedly by the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
The Anti-Terrorism Squad probing into the case has already arrested eight suspects, including two booked in the July 11 Mumbai serial blasts, in connection with four explosions that rocked the town killing 31 people and injuring more than 200.
However, Mr Nirupam is not happy with the way the state’s security agencies handled the matter. “It seems that Muslim community is not satisfied with the anti-terror squad (ATS) probing into the Malegoan blasts,” Mr Nirupam notes in the letter.
He also claims to have interacted with “lot of people from Muslim community”. Mr Nirupam’s letter notes “strong sense of resentment” among Muslims as they feel that “their community is being targeted”.
