HYDERABAD: BJP leader and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to be elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.

She was the only candidate who filed the nomination for the election, which was necessitated by the death of N Janardhan Reddy of Congress.

The scrutiny of nomination took place today and the official announcement of her election would be made on June 26, the last date of withdrawal of nominations, official sources said.

Sitharaman is currently Union Minister for Commerce and Industry (independent charge).

The ruling TDP has backed her nomination.
