Nirbhaya: Death-row convict Pawan Gupta files curative plea in Supreme Court

This comes after the date for hanging of the four convicts, March 3, comes closer. The move is yet another delay tactic employed by the convicts as fresh death warrants would have to be issued after the court hears the plea.

Pawan Gupta, one of the four Nibhaya gang rape convicts, filed a curative plea in the Supreme Court seeking the changing of his death sentence to life imprisonment on Friday.

This comes after the date for hanging of the four convicts, March 3, comes closer.

The move is yet another delay tactic employed by the convicts as fresh death warrants would have to be issued after the court hears the plea.


He is the only convict among the four who has not exhausted his legal remedies of filing a curative petition and subsequent mercy plea with the President.

On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern was gang raped and savagely assaulted in a moving bus in South Delhi. She died after a fortnight.
