Night vigil, random checks by magistrates for women's safety
Citing the plan to introduce marshals on buses, he said the government wanted to bring clarity on their duty schedules.

He said the government was gearing up to build confidence among women of Delhi by stepping up enforcement and vigil on the streets. District magistrates and sub-divisional magistrates will soon be entrusted with carrying out random checks in public transport and night vigils across the city. These officers will be part of quick response teams (QRTs) to act on complaints from women in distress, he said.
District authorities have been asked to identify vulnerable spots in their areas. The east district has already begun the exercise on a pilot basis.
"So far the women's security is concerned, we cannot simply get away with excuses that police are not with us. We have to focus on other measures to check crime against women and build confidence among women. Full statehood is important for ensuring control over not only law and order but also the region. We will eventually bring a resolution in the Delhi assembly to push for the demand for full statehood," Sisodia told TOI.
When asked if he felt helpless for not having a control over law and order, he said, "We are not helpless and that is why we are focusing on measures that can help build confidence. We are working on foolproof solutions, hence we do not want to make any announcement. Whatever we do, we want to ensure that it sustains."
Citing the plan to introduce marshals on buses, he said the government wanted to bring clarity on their duty schedules. "I feel the marshals must be on the bus in the evening and at night. Similarly, we are planning to empower the SDMs to carry out random checks on buses across the city to stop harassment of women commuters. If 23 SDMs do this for one hour a day, it can really boost confidence of women," Sisodia added.
The state government is also planning to link QRTs of the revenue department to women's security. Each magistrate may have to do night duty once a month where a QRT will be stationed with a magistrate, home guards and civil defence volunteer. This QRT is proposed to be linked to the 181 helpline and this team will respond to complaints of distress in real time.
