Nigerian gunmen release kidnapped oil workers

The eight foreign oil workers who were kidnapped by gunmen Saturday off the coast of Nigeria's oil-rich restive Niger Delta have been released.

LAGOS: The eight foreign oil workers who were kidnapped by gunmen Saturday off the coast of Nigeria's oil-rich restive Niger Delta have been released, a media reports on said Sunday.

No ransom was paid for the release of hostages,media reports military sources as saying. The militants had earlier demanded ransom for their release.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government reinforced security in the Niger Delta region. The militants have been fighting the government to gain control of the oil reserves in the area. Since 2006, over 200 foreign workers have been kidnapped in the region, reported.
