NIA will take over the case of LeT militant Saifulla Bahadur Ali
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is all set to take over the case related to the arrest of a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Saifulla Bahadur Ali, who was captured by security forces after a gunfight in Kupwara district on July 25. This may be the first case for the newly set up Jammu unit of NIA, which came into existence following 2015 Udhampur attack.

According to NIA officials, Ali was airlifted to New Delhi and has been kept under NIA custody after he claimed that he is from Pakistan and has been trained by LeT. The agency is likely to book him under section of UAPA.

Ali is believed to have told agencies that he crossed into India from Leepa Valley in Pakistani-Kashmir two months ago and was operating under the nom de guerre Saifullah.

The two others who crossed into the Valley with Ali were Saad bhai and Darda bhai. Both were killed in an encounter with security forces. The security agencies claimed to have seized one UBGL, 9 grenades AK 47 and a radio set from his possession.
