NIA seeks directions from Home Ministry to denotify former prosecutor Rohini Salian
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency has sought directions from the home ministry to denotify the former special public prosecutor Rohini Salian, an attempt to distance itself from the controversy over her removal.

Officials said that Salian will be on the NIA's panel until the home ministry decides whether it is satisfied with the recommendations made by the agency's field unit in Mumbai. The Mumbai unit had in a letter dated June 16 recommended "denotifying Salian since many special PPs (are) already available for representing the branch".

Salian will no longer appear for the agency in 2008 Malegaon case, though, officials said. This is also borne out by her statements. "If Centre wants it may not denotify her and she can continue as one of the special prosecutors till September this year," said an NIA official.

However, Salian has categorically said that she does not want to be associated with the NIA cases any more.
