NEW DELHI: With claims by Swami Aseemanand that RSS leadership "sanctioned" some terror acts creating a controversy, the NIA today distanced itself from the issue saying it doesn't have any role in the publication of his purported interview.

"There have been varying reports in sections of the media on NIA's position in respect of the alleged interview of Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemanad in the February 2014 issue of the magazine 'Caravan'. NIA clarifies that these reports are mere speculation and do not in any manner reflect the official position of NIA," the agency said in a statement.

Aseemanand's lawyer had alleged that the interview was the result of manipulations done by the agency.
