NIA arrests key PFI absconder in Kerala's Sreenivasan murder case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key absconder in Kerala's Sreenivasan murder case, linked with the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) organisation, the agency said in a statement on Thursday.

Muhammadali KP, the PFI district president for Palakkad, was taken into custody on Thursday morning at IGI Airport in New Delhi on his arrival from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he had been hiding for the past four years. With this, the total number of accused arrested in the case now stands at 67.

Among the 67 accused, 65 have been chargesheeted so far. Muhammadali K.P. is facing charges under relevant sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UA(P) Act].

Hailing from Palakkad district in Kerala, the wanted accused was one of the key conspirators in the murder and had also harboured the assailants involved in the brutal killing of Sreenivasan on April 16, 2022.

The NIA had declared a reward of ₹3 lakh for information leading to his arrest, and an Interpol Red Notice had also been issued against him.

According to the NIA, Sreenivasan was killed by PFI cadres in pursuance of the proscribed outfit's conspiracy to unleash terror with the nefarious agenda of establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047.

The NIA, which registered the case in September 2022, found during its investigation that the accused had conspired to create a communal divide through violent extremism and jihad in the country.
