NHRC seeks report from state within two weeks over Bilaspur incident
NEW DELHI: National Human Rights Commission ( NHRC) has issued a notice to the Chhattisgarh government directing it to file a report within two weeks over the death of women following "botched-up" sterilisation in Bilaspur.

According to an official statement released here today, the Commission has issued a notice to the state government, through the Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare calling for a report on the incident within two weeks.

The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports as well as complaints that about 12 women died and more than 70 others were in a serious condition following sterilisation on November 8 at a government-organised camp in Bilaspur district.

Allegedly, more than 83 women were operated within six hours using infected surgical tools, according to the statement.

The women were admitted to different hospitals after they complained of complications following sterilisation surgery at the camp held at a private hospital in Pendari village on outskirts of Bilaspur town on Saturday.
