NHRC seeks reply from UP government on gang-rape in relief camp
National Human Rights Commission issued notices to UP government and district authorities of Muzaffarnagar over an alleged gang-rape in a relief camp for riot victims.

According to an NHRC statement, the rights panel has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, government of Uttar Pradesh, District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar and sought reports from them.
The notices were issued after the Commission took cognisance of a complaint alleging gang-rape of a 20-year-old girl on November 2 in a relief camp for the riot victims of Muzaffarnagar.
The complainant has also alleged that the incident happened due to administrative negligence and requested the Commission's intervention in the matter, the statement said.
The Commission has observed that the allegations, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights.
The victim was residing in a relief camp at Jogaheri village at Fugana in Muzaffarnagar. On the night of the November 2, she was allegedly dragged away by two youth and gang-raped. The medical reports confirmed rape.
