NHRC seeks medical papers, reports from police & university
Stepping up its probe into Jamia Millia Islamia University incidents, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought responses from Delhi police, Jamia authorities and medical records of students on the allegations of human right violence ...

On December 20, NHRC set up a panel to probe the “allegations of human rights violations” and deputed a team “to conduct on-thespot inquiry to know whether incidents in Jamia Millia Islamia involved violation of human rights,” according to NHRC’s statement. The case was registered by NHRC after it received 3 different complaints in the matter over police highhandedness.
The complaint alleged that several students were grievously injured, with one student losing an eyesight while many more were detained with no access to medical or legal aid. The central university had sought a high level probe into the incident but the government said they will wait for the outcome of judicial proceedings over before ordering an investigations. An NHRC official said, “The probe into the matter is still on. The fact finding team will submit its report, which will be analysed and placed before the Commission for appropriate recommendations in the matter.”
