NHRC notice to Karnataka prison authorities on non-release of prisoners

NEW DELHI: National Human Rights Commission (NRHC) today issued notices to the prison authorities of Karnataka over allegations of non-release of prisoners even after completion of their sentence

The notices were served to the Director General (Prisons), Karnataka and Superintendent, Gulbarga Jail in the state asking them to submit reports within 15 days in the case, an NHRC statement said.

The notices were issued after the Commission took cognisance of complaints which said that six prisoners have not been released from the Gulbarga Jail, Karnataka even after completing their sentence for 14 years.

The prisoners are Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lal Singh, Wariam Singh and Gurdeep Singh Khaira. They were serving sentence for murder charges.
