NEW DELHI: Delhi government and North Delhi Municipal Corporation have been issued notices by the National Human Rights Commission for not providing notebooks to lakhs of students of primary schools run by the civic body even after five months of the beginning of the session.

The Commission, in its statement, quoted extensively from a media report on the tussle between the AAP government and the BJP-led corporations.

"While AAP Government has increased budget for education by more than 100 per cent, promising radical changes in education system in Delhi, it is least bothered to give money to Corporations to run the schools," the statement said quoting reports.

When contacted, North Corporation said it will soon start distributing notebooks to students of all the 746 primary schools.

"We have procured the necessary notebooks and will reply to the NHRC notice accordingly," its standing committee chairman Mohan Bhardwaj said.

The NHRC notices have been issued to Delhi Primary Education Department Secretary and North Delhi Municipal Corporation Chairman, calling for reports within two weeks.
