NFIW to protest on September 18 demanding universal food security

The National Federation of Indian Women will hold a nation-wide protest on September 18 demanding universal food security.

CHENNAI: The National Federation of Indian Women will hold a nation-wide protest on September 18 demanding universal food security, NFIW general secretary Annie Raja said today.

The 19th NFIW conference, which concluded here, adopted resolutions related to women empowerment and their place in social and political life, she said.

"On the one hand, godowns are filled with wheat and rice but are rotting while many people are starving without food. The Centre has also cut the ration quota even as the (proposed) Food Security Bill says it is targeted (scheme). So NFIW would hold nation-wide protest on September 18 demanding universal food security," Raja said.

Earlier, the conference elected Aruna Roy as NFIW president and Annie Raja as general secretary besides electing other office-bearers. NFIW is a pro-CPI women's forum.
